Ashley Biden
Daughter of US President-elect Joe Biden Ashley commented on the refusal of the first lady of the United States Melania Trump to invite the successor in this role, Jill Biden, on a hospitality tour to the White House. She discussed this on the air of the Today TV channel.
According to her, the current US President Donald Trump and his wife do not comply with traditional protocol. “It's unfortunate, but I think we are all fine,” she reacted.
Earlier it became known that Melania Trump refused to invite Jill Biden to the White House hospitality tour. Thus, she broke a tradition that had lasted more than 70 years: before the inauguration, the wife of the outgoing president received the wife of the new head of state in the family wing of the residence, showed her the living quarters and talked about life in the White House.
The tradition began in the 1950s when Bess Truman, wife of President Harry Truman, invited the wife of President-elect Dwight Eisenhower to the White House. The wife of the 44th President of the United States Michelle Obama invited Melania Trump in 2016.
Biden's inauguration is scheduled for January 20. In particular, Vice President Mike Pence is invited to the event. At the same time, Biden called Trump's decision not to attend the event as good, as he said earlier.
