The composition of the US Secret Service, which performs the function of guarding the president and his residence, will change with the arrival of Joe Biden. The turnover is partly due to the fact that Democrats are aware of Donald Trump supporters among the previous recruitment, according to The Washington Post.
It is reported that during the election of a new head of state, the composition, as a rule, changes – but this time the reshuffle will be larger due to fears of the new administration. The publication reports that Biden, like Bill Clinton after President George W. Bush, does not trust agents close to Trump.
Instead, the Secret Service officers who already guarded Biden when he was vice president under Barack Obama will take over the service.
According to sources close to the issue, service managers instructed their subordinates not to wear masks at events with Trump, because he was against such a measure – and thus contradicted their own security guidelines. Also in an unprecedented step was the fact that one of the functionaries of the service, Anthony Ornato, was for some time an adviser to the White House on holding rallies in support of the president.
According to the publication, more than 130 service employees have contracted the coronavirus this year. The first infected in their ranks became known back in May.
