Joe Biden
US President Joe Biden often draws attention to his Irish roots, overshadowing part of his family tree, reminiscent of the colonial history of the United States. Politico writes about this with reference to the book “Bidens” (The Bidens) by Ben Schreckinger, which claims that among the ancestors of the head of the White House were slave owners.
Alexander Bannerman, a genealogist from West Virginia, shed light on the history of the president's family, who undertook to study the ancestors of the 46th head of state.
After examining censuses from different years and registers that contained information about slaves, the expert found that Biden's great-great-great-grandfather, Jesse Robinett, who lived in Maryland, owned two slaves in the 1800s. The documents also mentioned that another Biden relative, Thomas Randle, in the 1850s, received a 14-year-old boy at his disposal.
Bannerman also discovered a distant relationship between Biden and the wife of Confederate States of America (CSA) President Jefferson Davis, Varina Ann Banks Howell. At the same time, the specialist noted that for a family whose roots go back to the colonial period, the Biden's ties with slavery are rather modest.
The publication indicates that before Joe Biden publicly admitted his Irish origin, he ordered a complete family tree from specialist James Petty, but it was not published later, and after the death of the expert in 2020, his widow and partner refused to disclose any information, emphasizing the confidentiality of cooperation with the client.
Earlier it was reported that US President Joe Biden remembered his predecessor and opponent in the 2020 elections, Donald Trump, at a speech in front of supporters in California and made the sign of the cross, causing a violent crowd reaction.
