US President Joe Biden will discuss de-escalation around Ukraine during a planned telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was announced during a briefing for journalists by a high-ranking representative of the American administration, he is quoted by TASS.
The official said that the United States continues to observe a significant presence of Russian forces near the Ukrainian border.
“We continued to make it clear to the Russian side (…) that real progress for us in these negotiations would be to reach a state where we have security and stability in Europe, an environment of de-escalation, not escalation, would be needed. Obviously, this will be part of what President Biden will hand over to President Putin tomorrow, ”he said.
Earlier, the official spokesman for the National Security Council (START) of the White House, Emily Horn, said that the leaders of the two countries are scheduled to have a telephone conversation at 15:30 Moscow time. The conversation, according to the White House, will be initiated by Russia. Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian leader, confirmed the information.
In recent weeks, statements have been made in Kiev and in the West about the threat of a Russian attack on Ukraine. Moscow stresses that it has no aggressive intentions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the information about the possible invasion empty and groundless escalation of tension.
