Biden warns of the consequences of Trump's aid package blockade

The elected US President Joe Biden has urged incumbent Donald Trump to put the Corona economic stimulus package, which was passed by Congress with non-partisan approval, into force with his signature. The Republican's refusal to attend was irresponsible and would have “devastating consequences,” the Democrat said on Saturday. Without Trump's signature, ten million Americans will lose their unemployment benefits.

The economic stimulus package of around 900 billion US dollars (738.13 million euros) provides, among other things, for higher unemployment benefits to be paid by March. In addition, most citizens should receive a one-time aid payment of 600 dollars.

However, Trump is calling, among other things, for the payment to be increased to $ 2,000 per capita, which is why he has indicated that he could veto the legislative package. “Republicans have to stop playing games while Americans are starving,” said Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren on Twitter.

Despite the expiry of the corona aid, Trump formally has until the beginning of January to put the law into force with his signature or to veto. With the economic stimulus package, however, part of the US federal government's budget was also passed. A law on the interim financing of the business will expire on Monday. If Trump does not sign the legislative package by then, the government would first have to suspend its business, it would lead to a so-called shutdown.

“In just a few days, government funding will run out, jeopardizing vital services and salaries for the military,” Biden said. From his inauguration on January 20, Biden also wants to campaign for another stimulus package to contain the pandemic and stimulate the economy.
