The administration of US President Joe Biden has asked the Supreme Court to ban the migrant protection program, also known as Remain in Mexico. Writes about this CNN.
This anti-migrant practice dates back to the time of former President Donald Trump, towards the end of his reign. The requirements of this program are for migrants from Mexico of non-Mexican origin. According to her requirements, migrants must live in refugee camps along the US-Mexican border, waiting for the US migration court to grant them permission to enter.
The Biden administration believes that this practice is against human rights, as people in refugee camps live in inappropriate and even dangerous conditions. At the same time, they already wanted to curtail the program earlier, but the US Court of Appeal ruled to keep it.
On October 29, it became known that the Biden administration planned to pay compensation to migrants who crossed the southern border of the United States, whose families were separated as a result of Trump's policies. It is expected that each member of the affected family can be paid up to 450 thousand dollars based on the circumstances.
