Joe Biden
US President Joe Biden has called on the US Congress to reform laws governing the carrying of firearms. Bloomberg reports.
According to Biden, the buyer's background should be checked before selling any firearm. In addition, it is necessary to ban automatic and semi-automatic weapons, as well as high-capacity magazines. Also, the US President believes that manufacturers who knowingly sell military weapons to private individuals should be held accountable for the consequences of their actions.
Biden explained the need for reform by fighting massacres. “This change is our duty to those we have lost and those who mourn the lost,” he said. “It's time to act.” He suggested taking an example from the families of the victims of the Parkland shooting, who are fighting to restrict the right to bear arms.
Mass shootings take place regularly in the United States, often with dozens of victims. In 2018, the bloodiest incident of its kind occurred in February, when 19-year-old Nicholas Cruz opened fire at his former school in Parkland, Florida. As a result, 17 people were killed and 17 were injured. In 2019, a 21-year-old shooter killed 23 visitors to a shopping center in El Paso, Texas, and injured 23 others.
