Biden understands that he may drop out of the race: The Times article caused a stormy reaction in the White House

The White House accused the publication of publishing false information.

US President Joe Biden said in a private conversation with one of the leaders Democratic Party that he realizes that he may drop out of the race if he fails to convince the public in the coming days of his ability to lead the country.

The Times writes about this.

The publication notes that in an attempt to correct the impression that voters had after the disastrous debate with Trump, 81-year-old Biden has already appeared in public several times. In particular, he gave an interview to ABC News and held meetings in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Two more events are scheduled to take place before the end of this week.

However, those who believe it is necessary to replace Biden and nominate another Democratic candidate criticized the ABC interview because the channel did not air it live, but only broadcast it on tape. Biden's critics also note that polls show a majority of Americans believe the US president should withdraw from the upcoming election.

“He sees the moment. He gets it clearly. Polls are down, fundraising is drying up and interviews are going badly,” an insider who said he spoke with Biden on Tuesday told The Times.

This article caused a strong reaction in the White House. In particular, Andrew Bates, a member of the press service of the US presidential administration, accused the publication of lying.

“This statement [about Biden's likely remarks – ed.] is absolutely wrong. If the New York Times had given us more than 7 minutes to comment, we would have told them about it,” he wrote on his page in social network X.

Recall that the media named the only condition under which Biden can refuse to participate in the elections. According to the authors of the American publication, Biden has a much better chance of defeating Trump than Vice President Kamala Harris.
