On Monday, February 28, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg took part in a secure conference call with world leaders hosted by US President Joe Biden following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
As specified, among the conference participants were British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, Polish President Andrzej Duda, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The NATO Secretary General stressed that NATO Allies have stepped up their support for Ukraine by providing security, humanitarian and financial assistance.
– NATO has already strengthened Allied defenses, including through the deployment of elements of the NATO Response Force to the eastern part of the Alliance. Allies have also decided to take additional steps to ensure the security and defense of all allies and will continue to adjust to the “new normal” in European security, according to a statement following the conference, published on the NATO website.
It is reported that the leaders reaffirmed their strong unity and readiness to continue working together to eliminate “the most serious threat to Euro-Atlantic security in decades.”
Russia was again called upon to immediately stop the war, withdraw all its forces from Ukraine and return to the path of dialogue.
International leaders agreed to continue close coordination of further steps between themselves and with Ukraine.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden, commenting on the conference, stressed that the States plan to continue to support the Ukrainian people who defend their country.
“We reaffirm our readiness to continue to impose serious measures on Russia if it does not reduce the escalation,” Biden concluded.
