Joe Biden held his first telephone conversation as President of the United States with President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping. This was announced by the White House, RIA Novosti reports.
The American leader said he was concerned about Beijing's actions. In particular, he touched upon the topics of human rights, Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Taiwan. Biden also emphasized “fundamental concerns about Beijing's coercive and dishonest economic actions.” He noted that he will protect the safety, prosperity, health and lifestyle of Americans, and also made a free and open Indo-Pacific region one of his priorities.
In addition, the leaders of the two countries exchanged views on confronting the coronavirus pandemic, common challenges to global health, climate change and non-proliferation of weapons.
