Biden sends advanced missile defense system, US troops to Israel

The US President said he was sending the system “to protect Israel”.

On Sunday, October 13, US President Joe Biden ordered the dispatch of an advanced anti-missile system to Israel, as well as American troops to operate it, to bolster the country's air defenses following missile attacks from Iran.

Reuters reports this.

Biden said he was deploying the system “to protect Israel.”

Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder said a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery would be deployed to bolster Israel's integrated air defense system.

“This is part of a broader shift the U.S. military has made in recent months to bolster Israel's defenses and protect Americans from attacks by Iran and militias linked to Iran,” Ryder said in a statement.

Earlier on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that the United States endanger the lives of their own troops by deploying them to control US missile systems in Israel.

“While we have made great efforts in recent days to contain an all-out war in our region, I am clear that we have no red lines in protecting our people and interests,” Araghchi wrote on the X network.

Recall that on October 1, Iran fired more than 180 ballistic missiles at Israel amid escalating fighting between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon. Many were intercepted mid-flight, but some penetrated missile defense systems.
