US President-elect Joe Biden will be more friendly to European countries as President of the United States than his predecessor Donald Trump – but overall, the Democrat will continue the Republican course. This was told by the former head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry Karin Kneissl in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
According to her, in recent years, the US began to pursue a tougher policy towards the EU, although in its essence it has not changed. “Trump expresses more clearly what other US presidents before him have phrased more amicably. Therefore, we can probably say that Biden will again be friendlier to formulate what Trump did harder and more aggressively, “Kneissl suggested.
Some European countries have hoped for a reset in relations with the United States after the presidential elections. For example, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that Berlin hopes for productive cooperation with Washington. The minister noted that a new understanding of the global “rules of the game” in politics, the fight against coronavirus and climate change is needed with the United States.
On November 3, the next presidential elections were held in the United States. As a result, Biden received the electoral college votes needed to win the presidential race. Trump does not recognize the results.
