Top party leaders, friends and key figures believe Biden will not win the election.
US President Joe Biden may decide to withdraw his candidacy from the presidential race. This could happen as early as this weekend.
Axios writes about this.
Several senior Democrats have privately said that growing pressure from party leaders and close friends could persuade Biden to withdraw from the presidential race. This could happen as early as this weekend.
Biden, who is currently in self-isolation due to the coronavirus, remains immersed in work. But in private, he has come to terms with mounting pressure, poor polling and unfair scrutiny that make it impossible for him to continue his campaign.
Democrats say senior party leaders, friends and key people believe Biden will not win the election. Moreover, it cannot change public perception of his age and mental acuity and cannot secure a majority in Congress.
“The President is being told that if he remains in office, Trump could win in a landslide and destroy Biden's legacy and the Democrats' hopes. Pressure on Biden to withdraw his candidacy is growing to unbearable levels, especially in the last few days … The panic campaign is putting pressure on Biden. It was relentless and coordinated,” the publication said.
At the same time, Democrats expect polling after the Republican National Convention to show a possible rout that could lead to a Democratic Party defeat in Congress as well.
“His choice is to become one of the heroes of history or be sure that there will never be a Biden presidential library. I pray he does the right thing. He is moving in that direction,” said one close Biden's friends.
Recall that Trump boasted of good relations with Putin.
