< p>At the same time, a White House spokesman said that the Ukrainians were allowed to use American weapons to strike across the border in conditions of imminent threat.
President of the United States Joe Biden does not allow strikes deep into Russian territory to prevent the escalation of the war.
This was stated by John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, on the sidelines of the NATO summit, reports Ukrinform.
When asked why the United States still does not allow Ukraine to destroy Russian military installations on enemy territory, Kirby replied: “The President agreed to allow the Ukrainians to use American weapons to strike across the border in an imminent threat. There has been no change.”
“We discuss what Ukrainians need every day, including today,” he added.
At the same time, the President, according to Kirby, should also be rightly concerned about the potential escalation of this conflict.
“Can the Ukrainians hit military air bases?” – asked the correspondent.
“I don't have to make any political statements today. We still don't allow American weapons to be used deep inside Russia,” Kirby said.
He noted that the first task of Western countries is to help Ukraine win on the battlefield, then they will need to make sure that the Ukrainians have a strong defense industrial base and defense capabilities.
Kirby said the US will continue to support Ukraine “as long as they [the Ukrainians – ed.] have a long border with Russia, and then eventually work to get them on the path to membership to NATO”.
“But, as in any democracy, there are things that need to be done in terms of governance, political reforms, all those things that we will work on with Ukraine, and we are confident that they will achieve this “, Kirby emphasized.
Recall that it was previously reported that the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Mike Johnson supported strikes on military targets on Russian territory with American weapons.
In addition, we previously informed that the White House announced whether it would lift the restriction for the Ukrainian Armed Forces on strikes on Russia with American weapons.
