Biden announced an agreement in the US Congress to extend aid to Ukraine

The US President assured that the overwhelming majority of Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives and Senate support Ukraine.

On Sunday, October 1, US President Joe Biden expressed hope that the Republicans will keep their word on supporting Ukraine and hinted at a corresponding agreement concluded after the US Congress excluded aid to Kiev from temporary government spending bill.

He spoke about this during a press conference at the White House.

“They [Republicans] said they would support Ukraine in a separate vote on financial assistance, intended for this country,” Biden emphasized.

Biden assured that the vast majority of Republicans and Democrats in the House and Senate support Ukraine in defending it from Russian aggression.

“I want to assure U.S. allies, the American people and the people of Ukraine that they can count on for our support,” he said.

He also added that he could not believe that “those who voted overwhelmingly to support Ukraine in the House and Senate, Democrats or Republicans, would, for purely political reasons, allow more people to die in Ukraine.”

Asked about confidence in Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy after he withdrew all of his demands for the resolution except for the removal of any mention of aid to Ukraine, Biden referred to the agreement.

“We just concluded an agreement on Ukraine, so we’ll find out soon,” he emphasized.

The US President did not explain the specific content of this agreement.

“I expect the Speaker [Kevin McCarthy] to remain committed to the people of Ukraine and will ensure that they receive the support necessary to help Ukraine at this critical moment,” Biden added.

Recall that earlier US President Joe Biden said that American support for Ukraine cannot be interrupted under any circumstances. This is how he reacted to the adoption of a project to temporarily finance the government for a period of 45 days, which does not contain funding for assistance to Ukraine.
