The American Presidential Administration is considering the possibility of transferring long-range ballistic missiles to Ukraine.
After several months of requests from the Ukrainian side, the Biden administration is working to provide Ukraine with new powerful ATACMS long-range ballistic missiles.
NBC News writes about this, citing two American officials.
Late last year, the United States began supplying Ukraine with army tactical missile systems known as ATACMS , but so far they have only supplied the older mid-range ATACMS.
According to sources, the United States is now leaning toward sending a longer-range version of the missile, which would allow Ukraine to strike further into the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula.
But US funding for arms supplies to Ukraine remains uncertain due to opposition from former President Donald Trump and his Republican allies in Congress. Last week, the Senate passed a $95 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. But it is unclear whether the House of Representatives will vote for this decision.
Pentagon representatives told reporters that the United States has a limited supply of ATACMS and is unlikely to send them to Ukraine without money to replenish its own supplies.
If Congress approves increased funding for Ukraine, the US could include long-range ATACMS in one of the first military aid packages paid for with the money, two US officials said. The US also has ammunition and artillery ready to immediately send to Ukraine if funding is approved.
In addition, it is possible that the United States may ask its allies to provide Ukraine with missiles and replenish their ATACMS stocks.
It was previously reported that Ukraine could receive hundreds of ATACMS missiles from the United States, which they planned to dispose of.
Recall that President Vladimir Zelensky first confirmed the use of ATACMS at the front on October 17, 2023.
