Germany plans to establish a joint cyber research center with Israel and deepen cooperation between the two countries' intelligence and security agencies.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced this during a visit to Israel, The Economic Times reports.

In a conversation with the German publication Bild, he emphasized that defense cooperation with Israel is becoming a key part of Germany's new security strategy amid growing threats from Russia and China.

“Military defence alone is not enough for this turning point in security. Significant improvements in civil defence are also necessary to strengthen our overall defence capabilities,” Dobrindt stressed.

According to the plan, Germany aims to develop a new cyber defense system, the so-called Cyber Dome, which will be part of the country's overall cyber defense strategy. Dobrindt has already presented a five-point concept that includes not only the creation of a cyber center, but also the broad integration of Israeli technology and expertise.

The initiative comes amid closer military-technical cooperation between Berlin and Tel Aviv. On the same day, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder called on the federal government to purchase 2,000 interceptor missiles to create a German air defense system similar to Israel's Iron Dome.

Earlier it was reported that the German Ministry of Defense lost almost a billion euros in aid to Ukraine.
