BelNPP in Ostrovets is preparing for industrial start-up
The tests of the first power unit are being completed at the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Ostrovets. The main goal is to confirm the reliability and safety of all systems.
The equipment was tested at different power levels of the reactor plant. Also, the power unit was routinely disconnected from the network several times. The next stage is commercial use. International experts also assessed the readiness for operation of the second power unit. The group includes employees of operating nuclear power plants in Russia, Bulgaria, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey.
“The criteria have been met for all tests. Now the results of these tests are being processed. Relevant reports and materials will be submitted to the regulatory authorities. And after confirming the station's readiness, we will consider the issue of issuing a license for industrial operation, ”said First Deputy Head of the State Atomic Inspection of Belarus Leonid Dedul.

Now Belarus is choosing a site for the construction of a waste storage facility from the BelNPP. Experts say that during operation, mainly low and intermediate level waste is generated. They will be at the station for ten years, and then they will be moved to storage.
