The Belgian police, in cooperation with Eurojust and Europol, carried out a major special operation to defeat a gang of drug traffickers who created a network of trafficking in illegal substances in Europe. This is reported by the TV channel RTBF.
It is specified that the police were supported by the special forces because of the high danger of the criminal association. The main part of the operation took place in the Belgian capital region and in the district of the port city of Antwerp. According to the channel, the gangsters' property and “other materials” were confiscated on a large scale. The exact numbers are not called.
Referring to the investigators, the investigating judge and the federal prosecutor's office, the RTBF said that Belgium was one of the centers of the international drug trafficking network. The shattered European part of the network was connected to gangs from Colombia and Mexico that brought drugs to Europe through Belgium and the Netherlands.
On February 7, it became known that a batch of hashish briquettes with a portrait of Russian President Vladimir Putin was seized in the Libyan city of El Marj. The main department of criminal investigations of the city clarified that a local resident found a batch of narcotic substances on the seashore. In total, 323 briquettes with the image of the Russian leader were found.
