The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised its citizens not to travel to Ukraine. Those who are already there are urged by the Foreign Ministry to leave the country. The corresponding message on Saturday, February 12, was published on the agency's website.

Representatives of the Foreign Ministry warned that they could not promise evacuation in the event of an aggravation of the situation on the territory of Ukraine. Citizens who are currently in Ukraine and whose presence is not absolutely necessary are strongly advised to leave the country.

The ministry stressed that since November last year, tension has been growing on the borders of Ukraine with Russia and Belarus. “The situation is extremely unpredictable, and we recommend keeping abreast of the situation on the ground,” the press service of the Foreign Ministry added.

In addition, the department noted that in the event of a sudden deterioration in the situation, the operation of airports, as well as communications, including telephone and Internet, may be disrupted. In this regard, Belgian citizens are advised to leave the country now, “while it is still possible.”

Earlier, the Australian authorities called on their citizens to leave the territory of Ukraine. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the Eastern European country is in a “very dangerous situation.” At the same time, he added, his call is only advice and the decision should be made by the Australians themselves. A similar recommendation was made by the New Zealand authorities.

Prior to this, Norway, Latvia and the Netherlands called on their citizens to return from Ukraine due to the “serious and unpredictable” security situation. The Japanese authorities also sent a corresponding appeal to fellow citizens.
