The number of points this year eclipsed the previous good record of the team boss.
Many fans have the headline from last year in the back of their minds that Franco Foda is Austria's team boss with the best points average. 2.07 points was impressive in October 2020. But then came the year 2021 – so far the team has scored 14 points in eleven games, which is 1.27 on average. This pushes Foda's total balance down to 1.88 points, in absolute numbers that is 77 points in 41 games.
Foda is rapidly approaching the value of his predecessor, Marcel Koller was retired in 2017 after 54 games and 88 points, which is an average of 1.63 points.
Especially the Corona year 2020 with only eight games, but 19 points – that makes an average of 2.375 – was outstanding. The goal difference was also impressive – 14: 7 goals. 14 goals were also scored in 2021, but more in three games.
The numbers are approaching those of the Koller era
In the comparison between scored and received goals, Foda and Koller are almost the same. Under Foda, an average of 1.56 goals were scored per game and 1.05 were received. At Koller there were 1.5 scored and 1.07 goals received.
Foda started as team boss in 2017 with a 2-1 win against Uruguay.
