Borrell threatened the Russian Federation that any further military aggression against Ukraine would have” serious consequences and a high price tag.
Before his visit to Ukraine, the head of European Union diplomacy, Josep Borrell, had a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

In the course of Conversations Borrell and Stoltenberg discussed the build-up of the Russian army on the border with Ukraine and considered two draft Kremlin security agreements. They also talked about preparations for a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council on January 12. The diplomat stressed that any discussion on security in Europe should be based on strengthening OSCE and UN commitments and responsibilities.
< p>“High Representative Borrell reaffirmed the EU's unwavering support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine and noted the need to de-escalate tensions and fully implement the Minsk agreements,” said a press release following a conversation between the EU and NATO leaders.
EU leader Borrell stressed that any further military aggression against Ukraine would have “serious consequences and a high cost.” Ukraine on a working visit on January 4-5. Borrell, together with Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, will visit the Donbass, as well as the line of confrontation. In addition, he will meet with other government officials in Kiev.
Meanwhile, against the backdrop of the build-up of the Russian Federation's Armed Forces near the Ukrainian borders, NATO Foreign Ministers will gather for an extraordinary meeting. The virtual meeting will take place January 7.
