Because of lockdowns: Ryanair cuts flight schedule even more drastically

In January, Ryanair expects fewer than 1.25 million passengers across the entire route network.

The latest worsening of the corona pandemic is thwarting Europe's largest low-cost airline Ryanair, the already lean business plans for the winter. Because of the new lockdowns in Ireland, Great Britain and some other EU countries, the Irish company will drastically reduce its flight offer from January 21st, as it announced in Dublin on Thursday.

From the end of January Ryanair plans to offer few or no flights to and from British and Irish airports. This applies until the strict travel restrictions are lifted.

Ryanair is now expecting fewer than 1.25 million passengers across the entire route network in January. In February and March it should only be around half a million each. In December, Ryanair had carried 1.9 million passengers, 83 percent fewer than a year earlier. For the current financial year up to the end of March, the Ryanair management now expects only 26 to 30 million passengers. Previously, the forecast was less than 35 million.

However, management assumes that the new flight cancellations will not significantly change the net loss expected for the financial year. According to the information, the company would have lost money on many of these flights anyway.
