The authorities of Chile after the eruption of an underwater volcano near the islands of Tonga closed the beaches. This is reported by the National Emergency Management on its Twitter.
According to the agency, beaches are temporarily closed in three regions of the country. “For the coastal border regions of Coquimbo, Los Rios and Los Lagos, due to a possible tsunami, a red alert level has been declared,” the message says. Users in the comments suggest that this is a preventative security measure due to the risk of a small tsunami.
Earlier, the threat of a tsunami had already been announced in the Kuril Islands. It was clarified that specialists from the Tsunami Center of the Sakhalin UGMS predicted a possible approach to the Kuril Islands by a tsunami wave no more than 0.2 meters high (for Japan – 0.3 meters).
