Flick
Hansi Flick left the Champions League with Bayern on Tuesday. Then came a speech that sounded like saying goodbye to many.
Dream burst! Paris Saint-Germain retaliated in the quarter-finals at FC Bayern for the final defeat in 2020, threw the defending champion from the Champions League. The French lost the second leg against ÖFB star David Alaba and Co. on Tuesday with 0: 1, but rose due to the 3: 2 in the first leg through the away goals rule.
It was therefore not surprising that coach Hansi Flick was not in a particularly good mood at the subsequent press conference. It was remarkable, however, that he did not ignore the question of his future as usual, but answered it in a long monologue. For the first time, Flick looked at the cards. Bayern fans are worried that he could leave the club in the summer to become German national coach.
Jogi Löw has already announced his resignation after the EURO. Flick, his former assistant coach (world champion 2014), is considered a top candidate for his successor.
After the match, Flick said: “It doesn't matter to them whether I might be at the DFB and have a different rhythm there.” The 56-year-old became thoughtful: “You sometimes have to respect when a coach says: 'I don't feel like talking about this topic anymore.' In the end, things are clear. I have a contract with Bayern Munich. You do it always wondering what will happen, how things will continue. Whether things are going wonderfully here or whatever.
Flick continues: “For every coach who is in such positions – whether it is a coach or a manager – it's about how the team and the club can develop. It's a completely normal process. Everyone has to deal with it themselves. These are things that are always very important to me. Where are we going? How are things going from here? I always think about that. “
The extent to which he still considers this development possible after six titles could play a role in his decision-making. The relationship with sports director Hasan Salihamidzic is very tense. Most recently, for example, the two were split in the Jerome Boateng case. Flick wanted to continue working with his regular defender. Salihamidzic has decided not to extend the contract that expires in the summer.
Now there is the call of the German association: “No matter what I would do, my family would always support me and stand behind me. Whether I might be at the DFB and have a different rhythm there is completely irrelevant to them. What matters is for she that the job is fun for me. That is what my family wants. No matter how my decision is made. She will stand behind me completely. That is a good feeling. “
Flick raved about his job as a coach, which is not necessarily tied to his club: “I really enjoy the job. I am attached to the coaching job because of course I've already done a lot of things in my life. I can't do anything else as the coaching job. It's nice to be in the position I'm in. It's a situation that is a lot of fun. Of course, you have enormous pressure. I'm used to that from my career as a player at Bayern Munich that you have the pressure to succeed. Also at the DFB or Bayern now as a coach. It's a normal coaching thing. I have a lot of fun with it. “
