The Central District Court of Barnaul satisfied the claim of the prosecutor's office for the recognition of prohibited information on the website of the iHerb online store. If the American company fails to appeal the decision, then Roskomnadzor will be able to restrict access to the site. The iHerb mobile application has been blocked since spring 2020.
The prosecutor's office initiated legal proceedings after the appeal of the Altai regional public organization of consumers “People's Control”, a source told Vedomosti. She counted more than 2 thousand positions on the ru.iherb.com website that violate Russian laws. Not all of them were included in the statement of claim, the newspaper notes. Among the prohibited goods are narcotic and psychotropic substances, homeopathic medicines disguised as dietary supplements without registration certificates, special food for athletes, the import of which is prohibited without permission from the Ministry of Sports.
The court made its decision on August 24. After the decision comes into force, Roskomnadzor will be able to add the iHerb website to the register of resources containing prohibited information. Operators will be required by law to block access to the site. iHerb and Roskomnadzor did not respond to Vedomosti's requests for comment.
In February, the Russian Supreme Court upheld the blocking of the iHerb mobile app. The marketplace application was blocked, as the court found some dietary supplements (dietary supplements) sold in it to be unsafe.
On blocking the application – in the material of “Kommersant” “iHerb reached the Supreme Court.”
