Messi led Barcelona to victory in Valencia
FC Barcelona has preserved the chance of the Spanish soccer championship title. The Catalans celebrated a 3-2 away win against Valencia on Sunday and are third in the table, two points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, who will be at Camp Nou next Saturday.
Valencia took the lead from a corner through Gabriel Paulista in the 50th minute. The guests complained in vain of a foul on goalie Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Barca then converted their clear superiority into goals. Lionel Messi scored in the 57th minute from a penalty margin and in the 69th minute from a placed free kick via the inside bar. Antoine Griezmann also entered the shooting list with a penalty in the 63rd minute.
The second goal for Valencia with a remarkable long-range shot by Carlos Soler (83rd) was only cosmetic result.
