Cards issued by these Russian banks will stop working abroad and in foreign online stores.
Visa and Mastercard have blocked the access of sanctioned Russian banks, which attacked Ukraine and continue its aggression, to use their services.
This was announced by the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov in Telegram.
“Mastercard and Visa have blocked access to the payment system for several Russian banks. Earlier, the President of Ukraine turned to Mastercard and Visa with a request to block payment systems in Russia,” Fedorov wrote.
The Verkhovna Rada clarified that we are talking about banks under sanctions. This means that the cards of these banks will only work in Russia. They will not be able to pay at the border and in foreign online stores.
Visa condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine and supports the Ukrainian people. In addition, the Visa Foundation will provide $2 million to UNICEF for humanitarian assistance to Ukrainians.
It will also double all employee donations (up to $1 million) to UNICEF and the Red Cross to help Ukraine.
