Only 14 years have passed since the opening of the monument, and corrosion has already damaged the sculpture.
In the Russian city of Yaroslavl, the sword of the statue of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, who founded this city on the Volga in the early 11th century, rusted and fell off. Locals are talking about a “bad sign”.
The Telegram channel “Podyom” reports this, publishing the corresponding photos.
Local residents drew attention to the destruction of the statue of the prince, which adorns the monument opened in 2010 on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the city of Yaroslavl. A piece of the sword lay at the feet of the sculpture for almost a month.
At first there was a suspicion of vandals who could have defaced the sculpture, but later local authorities “reassured” that the cause of the destruction was corrosion of the metal from which the statue was made.
“The destruction of the sword occurred due to corrosion… Work is currently underway to determine the contractor that will undertake the restoration of the monument. The work is planned to begin in the near future,” local utility workers reported.
Meanwhile, Yaroslavl residents are whispering that the lost sword is “evil “sign”, obviously hinting at the inglorious fate of the Russian army in its war of conquest in Ukraine.
It should be noted that only 14 years have passed since the opening of the monument, and corrosion has already damaged the sculpture.
Recall that earlier in the Moscow region city of Zvenigorod, an unknown man damaged monuments to two Soviet leaders – Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Lenin – with a sledgehammer.
