After mental problems, the 24-year-old made her comeback on the balance beam. China celebrated a double victory.
At the end of the gymnastics competitions at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, US superstar Simone Biles won bronze on the balance beam. The Chinese celebrated a double victory through Guan Chenchen and Tang Xijing. Due to mental problems, Biles had skipped the all-around event and three device finals, but returned to the Olympic stage on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old American showed an almost flawless exercise on the balance beam in the final, which was rewarded with bronze. For Biles it was the second medal in these games after silver in the team final, which she had, however, abandoned after only one jump. IOC President Thomas Bach also insisted on shaking hands with the American woman. The Chinese Guan Chenchen and Tang Xijing were in a class of their own and secured gold and silver.
There was also a Chinese victory on the parallel bars, on which Zou Jingyuan lived up to his role as favorite. The 2017 and 2018 world champion again did an exercise close to perfection and was rewarded with a grade of 16.233. The German Lukas Dauser won silver, the first medal at a major global event, while Ferhat Arican from Turkey won bronze.
