Funeral of a victim of shelling in the city of Ganja
Azerbaijan will respond to Armenia's shelling of the city of Ganja, but will only strike at military targets. This was stated by Presidential Aide Hikmet Hajiyev during an online briefing, quoted by RIA Novosti.
“Civilian targets and civilians are not targets for Azerbaijan,” he said, referring to the impending counterattack by the country's armed forces. A retaliatory blow will be struck on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, who ordered to punish those responsible for the deaths of civilians in the city of Ganja.
Earlier, Baku said that as a result of the night strike of the Armenian Armed Forces on the settlement, 13 people, including children, were killed; the search and rescue services continue to clear the rubble.
Armenia did not confirm that they were shelling the civilian infrastructure of the city. The unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) previously announced that it would strike at Ganja in response to the massive bombing of its capital, Stepanakert, including the use of drones, but would use military facilities as targets.
The fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh between the united forces of Armenia and NKR on the one hand and Azerbaijan on the other has been going on for 20 days. Turkey is also participating in the hostilities, although earlier Baku and Ankara denied this fact. On October 10, the parties, mediated by Russia, signed a truce, but it did not last even an hour. The participants in the conflict give different information about the losses, it is only known that the number of dead soldiers goes to hundreds, the number of civilians who die goes to dozens, according to the UN.
