A goal by Ramon Schnetzer from Salzburg brought the ÖEHV team a 1-0 win in Hungary.

The Austrian national ice hockey team made a successful international comeback on Thursday with a 1-0 (0: 0.1: 0.0: 0) win in Budapest against Hungary. For 14 months there had been no comparison with another national team, a rather young group now showed up at the start of a mini-tournament. Ramon Schnetzer fixed the victory with his first international goal after a nice action in the 39th minute, on Friday (5 p.m.) it goes against Belarus.

The match against the Magyars was the prelude to an intense spring with five training camps and a total of 13 international matches. These serve as preparation for the highlight of the season, the Olympic qualification tournament in Bratislava in August. Team boss Roger Bader also uses these games to test candidates for the future. Ten debutants were nominated, including five participants in the U20 World Cup at the turn of the year.

Strong support in the goal

In the first third the Hungarians had a playful overweight and also a pole shot, but the young, well-playing Villach goalie Alexander Schmidt could not be beaten in his first international match. The guests also kept the game open in section two. A good minute before the end, Schnetzer licked the puck from a Hungarian and then did everything right with a flick into the opposing goal. In the final third, the lead was cleverly brought over time.

After the comeback week, Bader will gradually have players from the two league semi-finalists Salzburg and Vienna Capitals, from finalist KAC and other legionnaires on the team. After two games each against the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy, a B-World Cup substitute tournament will take place in Ljubljana at the end of the spring from May 15 to 21.
