Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg has contracted the coronavirus. This was reported by the Austrian Press Agency (APA) with reference to its press secretary.
Schallenberg's disease is asymptomatic, he is in home quarantine.
The agency also reports that within 24 hours, as a precautionary measure, all members of the Austrian government will take a coronavirus test. The publication suggests that Schallenberg could have become infected at the Council of Foreign Ministers in Luxembourg on October 12.
According to Hopkins University, by October 17, more than 61,387 were recorded in Austria, of which 882 people had died.
In mid-September, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced that the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic had begun in the country. He noted that the most difficult epidemiological situation was in Vienna.
Against the background of an increase in the number of cases, the Austrian authorities have banned indoor weddings and other holidays in which more than ten people take part (now the maximum allowed is 50 people), except for religious ceremonies and funerals. The requirements for wearing masks that cover the nose and mouth have also been tightened. Under the new rules, wearing has become mandatory not only indoors, but also outdoors, as well as in public transport. All catering establishments were obliged to close no later than one in the morning, including stopping the service of closed parties and other events.
