The Austrian authorities decided to close the sky for Russian aircraft. This was announced by the country's Minister of Transport Leonore Gewessler, RIA Novosti reports.
According to her, Vienna supports the decision to close the airspace for Russian airliners throughout the European Union. At the same time, it is necessary to act “as a whole” and make decisions quickly.
“We have already taken all the necessary precautions. After the decision, Austria will immediately block its airspace for all Russian aircraft,” the minister said.
Earlier, seven European countries announced the closure of airspace for Russia: Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, and the Baltic states.
