Australian scientists have learned how to tickle rats properly

Scientists from the University of New England have found a way to improve the emotional state of rats. These rodents are often used for scientific experiments. According to local laws, from 2019, scientists must take care not only of the physical, but also of the mental state of their charges, according to the State Portal of the Australian Capital Territory.

Researchers looked for ways to cheer up the rats and found that they were ticklish. As part of the experiment, the rats were divided into two groups. Some were tickled daily, others were not touched. A month later, it turned out that rodents from the first group cope better with fear and, in general, begin to trust humans more.

Scientists also noted that rats need to be tickled in a special way: first, touch the back of the neck, and then gently turn onto their back and tickle the chest. These actions mimic the playful actions of rats with each other and are liked by rodents. But touching the tail is perceived as aggression.

Previously, scientists from China have achieved that male rats were able to bear cubs. Rats are no different from their naturally born counterparts.
