Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called on the Chinese authorities to condemn Russian “threats” to Kiev. It is reported by the South China Morning Post.

The politician demanded that Beijing allow Russia's response through the United Nations and “not resist it” through membership in the UN Security Council.

“I note that the Chinese government, along with the Russian government, have united on this issue, and that the Chinese government has not condemned what is happening in Ukraine,” Morrison said, expressing concern about “forging closer relations” between Russia and China on against the backdrop of an alleged invasion.

Morrison criticized Chinese authorities amid rapidly deteriorating relations between Beijing and Canberra. In December, Australia joined China's diplomatic boycott of the Olympics. And in September, together with the United States and Great Britain, it organized the AUKUS defense partnership, the key goal of which is to protect and defend the common interests of the parties in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as counter the rise of China in the military and technological sphere.
