Restrictions also apply to the next of kin of sanctioned persons.
The Australian government has announced sanctions against 33 wealthy Russians who “benefited directly from the Kremlin's illegal activities in Ukraine since 2014” and their immediate families.
On Monday, March 14, reports CNN with reference to Foreign Minister Maris Payne.
A total of 33 people were sanctioned. Among them are the owner of the Chelsea football club Roman Abramovich, the head of Gazprom Alexei Miller, the chairman of the board of directors of Rossiya bank Dmitry Lebedev, the chairman of Rostec Sergey Chemezov, the head of Transneft Nikolai Tokarev, the head of VEB.RF bank Igor Shuvalov and the chairman Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev.
Many of these oligarchs have directly benefited from the Kremlin's illegal activities in Ukraine since 2014.
The sanctioned individuals are said to have “accumulated enormous personal wealth and are of economic and strategic importance to Russia, including as a result of their ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.” The content of the imposed restrictions is not reported.
Thus, Australia, following the United States, Great Britain, Canada, the European Union and New Zealand, imposed sanctions on key Russian businessmen close to Russian President Putin due to the invasion of Ukraine.
Recall that earlier Australia announced the imposition of sanctions against the President of the aggressor country Vladimir Putin and a number of top Russian officials.
