After the disappointment from the previous day, Lucas Auer still has reason to celebrate at the DTM race weekend at the Hockenheimring. The 27-year-old Tyrolean won the second race in a Mercedes on Sunday in 57: 33.498 minutes, ahead of the now sole overall leader Liam Lawson from New Zealand (Ferrari / + 6.388 seconds) and his brand colleague, the German Maximilian Götz (+12.080).

On Saturday, Auer was eliminated in second place after he was hit from the side by the Indian Arjun Maini and his car was too damaged. The Bollide could not only be restored in time, it even became the winning car. Saturday winner Kelvin van der Linde (RSA / Audi) was only tenth this time.

Auer thanked his team explicitly. “The car was badly damaged after the incident yesterday. But the guys did a great job. My Mercedes felt even better today,” said the happy nephew of DTM boss Gerhard Berger after his seventh DTM victory.

It was very important in the race that he got past van der Linde quickly. “After that I was able to control the race. I am very happy and am now looking forward to the finale at the Norisring next week. Because a street circuit is always something special.”

Series rookie Lawson leads the overall standings with 206 points, ahead of van der Linde (192) and Götz (180), while Auer is seventh with 125 points. Incidentally, Mercedes won the brand classification even before the final.
