A man who attacked passers-by with a knife in Dresden, Germany on October 4, turned out to be an Islamist. Der Spiegel writes about this.
It is noted that a 20-year-old Syrian named Abdullah al-Kh. has long been listed as a “violent extremist” in Germany. An Islamist attacked two tourists in the center of Dresden about two weeks ago, he was armed with a kitchen knife. A 55-year-old man from Krefeld later died in hospital, his 53-year-old friend from Cologne survived the incident.
Earlier, the offender was sentenced to two years in prison, accused of recruiting militants for the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in the Russian Federation). The investigation believes that the recidivist “radicalized” when he was serving this prison term.
It is assumed that he came to Germany in 2015. Since 2017, he has increasingly turned to IS and thought about how to organize attacks.
On September 24, the authorities of the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia exiled a particularly dangerous Islamist to Russia. It is noted that the man known as Rashid K. has been repeatedly prosecuted and may pose a threat. It is known that he arrived in Germany in 2004, presumably from Chechnya, and requested political asylum, but his request was rejected.
