The Supreme Court of Iran sentenced to death the man who committed an armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran on January 27, 2023. Then a man with a Kalashnikov assault rifle killed the head of the security service of the diplomatic mission and wounded two more guards. One of the embassy guards managed to disarm the attacker.
This was reported by the AzTV channel.
After the incident, which was classified by the country's President Ilham Aliyev as a terrorist attack, the Azerbaijani authorities decided to evacuate all employees of the embassy in Tehran and members of their families. Currently, only the country's Consulate General in Tabriz is functioning.
Yasin Huseynzadeh (or Hosseinzadeh), who is likely associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was detained for the attack.
