At the UN Security Council, Russia was warned against recognizing the independence of “L/DPR”

The statement was announced on behalf of six European countries and the EU delegation.

After the meeting of the UN Security Council on the Minsk agreements, France, Germany and four other European countries called on Russia not to recognize the self-proclaimed “DNR” and “LNR”.

This became known on the broadcast of the meeting.

The Permanent Representative of France to the UN, Nicolas de Riviere, announced a joint statement by France, Germany, Ireland, Estonia, Norway, Albania and the EU delegation expressing deep concern over the adoption by the Russian State Duma of a resolution calling on the President of the Russian Federation to recognize the independence of pseudo-state entities in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

“We warn against this step, which would be a further violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and would go against the spirit and letter of the Minsk agreements,” the document says.

The day before, Ukraine applied to the UN Security Council with a request to discuss, in the context of the implementation of the Minsk agreements, the resolution of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on recognizing the independence of the so-called “L/DPR”.

Recall that Russia convened the UN Security Council to accuse Kiev of sabotaging the implementation of the agreements. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry objected that it is Russia that is undermining the Minsk process. In particular, the State Duma of the Russian Federation voted to recognize the fake republics as independent. And this directly contradicts the Minsk agreements. They are aimed at the reintegration of the occupied territories within Ukraine.
