At the same time, it should be noted in the Summit documents that the Alliance must be prepared for rapid response scenarios.
At NATO summit in Washington the issue of inviting Ukraine to the Alliance will not be considered.
This was stated by the Minister of National Defense of Lithuania Laurynas Kasciunas in an interview with LRT TV channel.
As reported by LRT, the minister noted that Russia should not be given the impression that it has an informal veto on NATO expansion, and that the Washington summit documents should indicate that there is a transition to a new defense planning with principle of containment.
This work, he said, is about developing gap-filling capabilities such as air defense, long-range and medium-range strike capabilities.
“We hope that this will be reflected in the final document. As far as we know, these things have already been filed and protected,” the minister said.
According to Kasciunas, the NATO summit documents will mention that the Alliance must be prepared for rapid response scenarios, where there is not only a long-term pre-positioning of forces, but there may also be quick decisions.
“Also a kinetic, hybrid option up to Article 5. This also needs to be talked about. Russia must pay its price,” Kasciunas added.
Recall that on July 10, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg, during a briefing in Washington at the Alliance summit on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of its founding, said that Ukraine could receive an invitation to NATO membership subject to agreement of all Alliance member countries, but not during the summit in Washington.
