In northern India during a religious event in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, 2 July, at least 27 people were killed. The stampede occurred during a satsang, or prayer meeting, in Hathras.

Local TV footage from a community health center showed several bodies being brought in surrounded by grieving relatives.
< em>“We have received 27 bodies, of which 25 are women and two men. Some of the injured have also been taken to hospitals,” said Uttar Pradesh Etah chief medical officer Umesh Kumar Tripathi.< /p>
Police spokesman Rajesh Kumar said that three children were among the dead. The incident took place in a village under Sikandra Rao police station limits in Hathras.
“Currently, 27 bodies have been sent to the hospital, of which 23 are women and three children,”, he was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath said his government has set up a committee to investigate.
