Astronomical texts found in ancient temple of Egypt
Representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt, together with scientists from Germany, restored the interior decoration of the ancient Egyptian temple of Esna. This structure, which is estimated to be two thousand years old, is located 60 kilometers south of Luxor, according to the website of the University of Tübingen.
The researchers noticed that it is very different from traditional Egyptian religious buildings. So, the inner walls were covered with unusual hieroglyphs. The analysis showed that these are not separate inscriptions, but coherent text. According to experts, its creation could take about two hundred years.
Recently, restoration work was carried out in the temple. They helped not only restore the original colors of the finish by removing soot, but also find previously unknown fragments of text.
“They (hieroglyphs) were previously invisible under the soot and now open in parts. Here we found, for example, the names of the ancient Egyptian constellations that were previously completely unknown, ”the authors emphasized.
Esna's temple became known thanks to the Napoleonic soldiers. This structure is well preserved (in most cases, the Egyptians destroyed ancient buildings, taking building materials from them for their houses). In the first half of the 19th century, it served as a warehouse for cotton. Now scientists are trying to restore its original appearance.
Earlier it was reported that more than 100 sarcophagi were sewn in Egypt. This is not the first major find in recent months.
