WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has filed a petition to appeal against the extradition court ruling to the United States. His fiancée Stella Morris on Twitter.

Morris stressed that Assange's request for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court is currently being considered by High Court justices. “It is not known how long it will take to make a decision, but it is not expected that this will happen until the third week of January,” she said.

The High Court of England and Wales allowed Assange's extradition to the United States on December 10. Thus, the court granted the appeal request from Washington, which tried to challenge the previous decision on the ban on extradition.

In October 2016, shortly before the US presidential elections, the WikiLeaks website published the correspondence of John Podesta, the chairman of the campaign of the US presidential candidate from the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton. The letters addressed issues of nuclear energy, as well as donations to the Clinton Foundation from mining. Clinton blamed Russia for disseminating this information and failing in the elections. The U.S. Department of Justice filed 17 charges against Assange in May 2019, later adding another. If extradited to the United States, the founder of WikiLeaks faces up to 175 years in prison.

In 2020, former US President Donald Trump promised to pardon Assange if he named the source from which he received the texts of the letters from the hacked servers.
