In the friendly against Betis Sevilla, José Mourinho once again provided an example of why he is so polarizing. After Roma player Lorenzo Pellegrini saw yellow and red after an hour because of a complaint, the star coach lost his nerve. The Portuguese, who has been on the sidelines in the Italian capital since July, then left his coaching zone, marched on the field and covered referee Figueroa Vázquez with ranting.

The referee sent the coach to the stands, as well as another member of the coaching staff. Then Gianluca Mancini received yellow-red after an elbow stroke, later Rick Karsdorp had to leave the field after a tackle. Eight Roma players ultimately left the field with a 2-5 defeat.
The season starts on August 22nd against Fiorentina.
