Xaver Schlager is visibly in pain.
Bitter news from the ÖFB team camp! Xaver Schlager suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and is therefore out for a long time.
The worst fears are likely to have come true: Xaver Schlager suffered a cruciate ligament rupture on Sunday.
The ÖFB team player injured himself in the Bundesliga match with VfL Wolfsburg against RB Leipzig on Sunday. Schlager couldn't celebrate the 1-0 victory of his team, which also means first place in the table after three rounds. He left the field after 67 minutes with a bandaged knee, supported by two supervisors.
Even before the official diagnosis of the club and the ÖFB, colleague Marko Arnautovic chatted in a media round on Monday: “I have just found out that Xaver Schlager has torn his cruciate ligament.”
For Arnautovic and his compatriots, the World Cup qualifying triple against Moldova, Israel and Scotland is on the program from Wednesday. Schlager cannot contribute: “Of course I wish him a speedy recovery and that he comes back as soon as possible. This is of course a serious injury, also for the head.”
In addition to the Wolfsburg legionnaire, the long-term injuries Sasa Kalajdzic and Stefan Lainer are also missing. Julian Baumgartlinger has knee problems again. Arnautovic: “It doesn't matter whether it's a regular player, a key player or not. Every player who fails naturally hurts. We have to fix it now, the players we are here. That we do what we want in the EURO have built up, now. But of course it's crazy. That you have three games in six days. There are also two away games. It's a tough trip. We're not the ones who decide. We don't make the game plan. We just have to make sure that we do our best to win these games. “
