The armed forces of Azerbaijan shelled the capital of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Stepanakert. Shushan Stepanyan, press secretary of the Armenian Defense Ministry, announced this on her Facebook page.
“The capital of Artsakh [unrecognized NKR] was periodically subjected to rocket fire. Eight rockets were struck at apartment buildings, residential areas, public facilities. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties, ”the message says.
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that he considers the introduction of Russian peacekeepers into Nagorno-Karabakh the most effective. According to him, if peacekeepers from other states are deployed in the region, problems may arise, “starting with language communication, nuances of knowledge of the region and mentality.”
On October 26, a ceasefire came into force in Nagorno-Karabakh. The corresponding agreements were reached by Azerbaijan and Armenia with the mediation of the United States. The third truce began at 08:00 local time (07:00 Moscow time), but soon the sides accused each other of violating the silence and continued to fight.
In 1991, Nagorno-Karabakh, the majority of whose population were Armenians, declared independence from Azerbaijan. Baku tried to return the region by force, a war broke out. In 1994, Azerbaijan, Armenia and the unrecognized NKR signed a truce.
