Armenia and Azerbaijan exchanged prisoners

Late in the evening on Monday, December 14, the exchange of prisoners of war between Armenia and Yerevan ended. The aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) delivered 44 people to Yerevan, 12 to Baku. The exchange took place with the mediation of Russian peacekeepers.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov told reporters about this, noting that the negotiations with representatives of the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides on the exchange of prisoners of war on the principle of “all for all” were personally led by the commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov.

“As a result of the agreements reached, on December 14 the exchange of prisoners of war took place. The commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces personally handed over 12 people to the Azerbaijani side, and 44 people to the Armenian side, ”TASS quoted Konashenkov as saying.

Recall, as the site kp.ru wrote, earlier the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan announced the agreement of the exchange. The agreement applies not only to the military who were captured during the aggravation of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020, but also to those who were captured before.
