Chris Smalling is not the first football victim in Italy. Before him, his coach and a Lazio player were robbed.

AS Roma player and former England international Chris Smalling was the victim of an armed robbery at his home in the Italian capital. Three gunmen broke into Smalling on Friday around 5 a.m., reported the Italian news agencies ANSA and AGI . They would have forced him to open a safe that contained jewelry and watches.

Smalling's wife and son and other relatives were also reportedly in the house. Smalling's association initially did not comment on the incident when asked. Due to an injury, the 31-year-old was absent from AS Roma's Europa League game against Ajax Amsterdam on Thursday evening.

Roma coach Paulo Fonseca and Lazio Roma player Joaquin Correa were robbed in autumn while they were out with their teams.
